Former India Hockey Coach Jagbir Singh Is in the ICU After Having a Heart Attack

Jagbir Singh, a former hockey coach and forward for India, was taken to the hospital on Friday after complaining of chest congestion. While there, he had a catastrophic heart attack. The two-time Olympian is here with Team Gonasika for the Hockey India League (HIL).
During Friday afternoon’s team exercise, Jagbir experienced breathing difficulties. He was brought to Apollo Hospital right away, where a clogged artery was identified as the cause of his symptoms.
While the doctors were treating him for the clogged artery, he had a heart attack. “Jagbir experienced respiratory issues after checking into a hotel after the training session with Team Gonasika, with which he is affiliated. He was brought right away to Apollo Hospital, where he is still in the intensive care unit,” a source told PTI.

The 59-year-old former employee of Air India competed for India in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the 1992 Barcelona Games. He represented India from 1985 to 1996, taking home silver in the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing and bronze at the 1986 Games in Seoul. He received 175 international caps overall. During the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Jagbir served as coach of the Indian men’s squad.
