India’s 21-year-old left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to make his Test debut for India in the first Test against West Indies, which begins on Wednesday in Dominica. Jaiswal has been in excellent form in white-ball cricket, scoring 625 runs in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) with an average of 48 and a strike rate of 163.61. He also scored a hundred and a fifty in the recent tour of Sri Lanka.
Jaiswal’s selection comes at the expense of Mayank Agarwal, who has been dropped from the Test squad. Agarwal had a poor run of form in the recent Test series against Sri Lanka, scoring just 76 runs in four innings.
Jaiswal will be joined at the top of the order by Rohit Sharma, who will be captaining India in the Test series. Sharma is one of the most prolific opening batsmen in world cricket, and he will be looking to lead India to a series win against West Indies.
The other batsmen in the Indian squad include Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Hanuma Vihari, and Shardul Thakur. The bowlers in the squad are Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
India will be looking to extend their dominance over West Indies in Test cricket. India have won the last 12 Test matches they have played against West Indies, and they will be confident of winning the upcoming series as well.
